Our long established company Exhaust A Fix Ltd have launched a Wholesale business to supply the trade from our impressive site in Richmond North Yorkshire and have an online presence to provide the very best service for stainless steel exhaust components.

Our products and competitive prices complement the vast experience we have in stainless steel exhaust systems.

Our exhaust systems are produced using Stainless Steel 304 (known as A2). Stainless Steel 304 offers excellent corrosion resistance, cleanability, and the ability to handle extremely low and high temperatures.

The basic chemical compositions of Stainless Steel 304 is :

Iron + chromium 18% + nickel 8% (sometimes known as 18:8)

Stainless steel can also be classified by it's crystalline structure, which is determined by their chemical composition. Stainless Steel 304 is known as an Austenitic stainless steels. Other types include Ferritic, Martensitic, and Duplex.

Stainless Steel was developed 100 years ago by W. H. Hatfield at Firth-Vickers in 1924 and was marketed under the trade name "Staybrite 18/8".

Stainless Steel 304 is specified by SAE International as part of its SAE steel grades. It is also known as:

  • 4301-304-00-I and X5CrNi18-9, the ISO 15510 name and designation.
  • UNS S30400 in the unified numbering system.
  • A2 stainless steel outside the US, in accordance with ISO 3506 for fasteners.
  • 18/8 stainless steel (also written 18-8 and 18:8) in the commercial tableware, fastener and vehicle exhaust system industries.
  • SUS304 the Japanese JIS G4303 equivalent grade.
  • 1.4301, the EN 10088 equivalent.
  • 06Cr19Ni10 and ISC S30408, the equivalent in Chinese GB/T 20878 and GB/T 17616 nomenclature.

Beware cheap alternatives  For example Stainless Steel 201 has a high iron content, a dark bright exterior but is easy to rust especially in corrosive environments like on a vehicle exhaust system, so may look the part as new but will corrode almost as much as a normal steel exhaust component. So if the description says chrome finish (Type 201 is often chrome plated to give a brighter appearance) then it is probably 201 stainless steel and if it is cold rolled as part of it's manufacturing process then it will also be magnetic which the much more expensive and corrosion resistant type 304 never is.

 PLEASE NOTE

Our Workshop is no longer open for repairs/fabrications but we do have a list of stainless steel exhaust fabricators throughout the UK, so we may not be able to do the work, but we are be able to recommend someone who can!
